Boniface banned, fined €25,000 for offensive gesture

Nigeria international and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has received a match suspension and a €25,000 fine for making an offensive gesture during the German Super Cup match against Stuttgart at the BayArena on Saturday.

Boniface, who scored the opening goal in his team’s 2-0 victory, allegedly made the gesture by raising his left middle finger towards the opposing players as he ran past them immediately after the match ended.

As a result, the 23-year-old will be sidelined for the German Cup match against Carl Zeiss Jena on Saturday but will be eligible to play in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga season opener on Friday against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Referee Tobias Stieler confirmed that he did not witness the incident during the match, leading to a subsequent investigation and charges by the disciplinary committee. Both Boniface and his club have accepted the decision, making it final and binding.
